I am SP/5 Dwayne A Hawpe Tour of Service (1 Apr 1970 thru 28 Nov 1971) I had
extended my tour for six-months and already taken my special 30 day leave so
I stayed when everyone else from the Company went home.
In August of 1970, I went stateside on a 30 day emergency leave. When I returned
I was "made" the Company Clerk because James M. (Jim) Walton (The
then Comany Clerk) was about to reach his DEROS. Seems like the scores I made
on the entry tests, taken when you joined the Army as was my case "made"
me the new Company Clerk. End of Story, Sir!
I have pictures and recall some names, also was in charge of MAIL CALL and knew
everyone then. Got to fly with the mail to outlying TDY units in Bam Me Thout
before we moved there.
Joined Co A when they were putting up the pad in An Khe.
