I have been browsing the new website and reading the history with great interest.I cannot get over your throughness and how you have so many personel pictures. Just like a school yearbook!!
I saw an old friend in the form of George Yanek. During the 70's he is a company commander but when I got there in Feb.71, he was S-4. I was in B Company, which was at Weigt-Davis, until the company stood down in April '70. At that time I went to work for George and was sent to the Qui Nhon area (Phu Tai) to help expedite and locate building material that the battalion needed. It was a great job!! Any way, when the rest of the battalion stood down, I was put in charge of the turn in in Qui Nhon. I had 1Lt. Jake Dillinger as my helper. Our job was to recieve the equipment from Plieku, wash it with high pressure washers and deliver it to the port of Qui Nhon. We were set up about 5 KMwest of QL 1 on QL 19. I say this because I don't remember anything about Cha Rang valley as you noted. Also, we really didn't do all the heavy haul. An S&T battalion fron Phu Tai hauled alot and we also used a Korean company, Han Chin.
Again, a great site and I will help anyway I can. Take care,
