Michael J. Dyches
A Company, 20th Engineer Battalion
1967-68
I remember the mine sweeps,the monsoons,mine detonations,c-rations packed in
1942! I then remember the Co. CO and his driver hitting the mine on Hwy.-14
and Gulkhe hitting the mine near the Rock quarry. I was there the day Mike(from
Iowa) was shot through both legs by a sniper. The Army later ruled it a self-inflicted
wound. That was a crock! I was the first to get to him and it would have impossible
to have gotten his M-14 at that angle! I was at Jackson's Hole when the bunker
caved in on Paluchi, mysef, and another guy.I got my back hurt in that one but
was too proud to leave the field. Now I pay for it quite often. There's no record
of that injury or the many times we were saturated with Agent Orange! Also visited
Du Co, Plei DeJereng, Oasis, Frenchman's Pass, Cav.Hill,Ia Drang Valley, and
many others.Welcome Home!
